The college admissions scandal rocked America when the crimes of the rich and famous broke last March.
Although seven parents have been convicted and are headed to jail, there are many more currently walking free.
But the most shocking outcome of the scandal is the failures by our justice system.
The college admissions scandal first broke in March when the federal government unveiled the investigation named “Operation Varsity Blues.”

Some parents bribed tutors to take their children’s SATs for them, while other parents went to such extremes as to photoshop their children’s faces onto the bodies of other successful high school and college athletes.
Most parents involved claimed they were “acting out of anxiety and fear for their children’s futures.”
However, since the scandal broke last spring, only seven of the 52 parents have been sentenced to time in prison.
And shockingly enough, only 24 have pled guilty to the crimes of which they were accused.
However, the other high-profile celebrities and wealthy parents have decided to plead not guilty and face trial including Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli.
As of now, Felicity Huffman was sentenced to 14 days in prison for paying $15,000 to have her daughter’s SAT scores altered by Rick Singer, the mastermind behind the college admissions scheme.
Singer also pled guilty and he and Huffman are required to pay fines.
Devin Sloan, an LA executive, received four months in prison for bribing Singer to photoshop his son’s body to look like a highly-capable water polo recruit.
Stephen Semprevivo, another LA executive, also received four months in prison for faking his son’s athletic history to gain admission to Georgetown University.
Ironically, Semprevivo’s son tried to sue Georgetown University in order to avoid expulsion. The lawsuit obviously did not go over well and was later withdrawn.
Gordon Caplan, a New York attorney, was sentenced to a month in prison for bribing Singer to fake his daughter’s ACT scores. His daughter is still in high school and was unaware of her father’s efforts to cheat her way into college.
And the most recent ruling was made by U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani of Boston who sentenced Gregory and Marcia Abbott to one month in prison for paying a whopping $125,000 to fake their daughter’s test scores.
The same judge is expected to sentence only six more parents in the coming months.
But the most frustrating part is not the collegiate corruption, but the blatant failures by the justice system to do their constitutional duties and see that these entitled celebrities receive proper justice.
The most prolific example is that of Lori Loughlin and her husband whom, as two of the most well-known names in the investigation, continue to avoid being convicted despite their obvious guilt.
Although “Operation Varsity Blues” was unprecedented, the failure of the justice system is clear.
While 52 stand accused, only 7 parents and individuals involved are currently facing prison sentences.
