The nation’s struggle to handle the Chinese-spread coronavirus continues to rage on like the California fires.
And even though the worst responses have largely been in liberal bastions like California, even the conservative-leaning state of Tennessee is having its struggles.
Now it turns out that Nashville’s Mayor hid the actual COVID numbers from the public for this sickening reason.
Nashville Mayor John Cooper has come under fire for his response to the Communist Chinese created COVID-19 virus.
Under his command, business have been closed – many for good – freedom-crushing restrictions put in place, and events canceled.
Meanwhile he allowed a BLM protest on July 4th while all other 4th of July celebrations were shut down.
All in all, his response has been a disaster and thousands are left without jobs.
Still, his actions might have at least some merit if there was an actual Coronavirus outbreak in the city.
But it turns out that wasn’t the case.
Nashville’s local Fox News 17 WZTV recently broke the story that city officials, including Mayor Cooper’s office, colluded to hide the actual COVID numbers in the city.
Emails received by Fox 17 between the Mayor’s senior advisor and the health department reveal a disturbing case of power gone mad.
The initial discussion of the email exchange involved the very low number of coronavirus cases that had emerged from the bars and local restaurants in Nashville.
But the emails also revealed the efforts to keep the information hidden from the public – all while Mayor Cooper was putting thousands of Nashville citizens out of work and business owners out of business.
According to the emails, bars and restaurants in Nashville reported just 22 cases of the coronavirus.
Leslie Waller of the health department asks in one email, “This isn’t going to be publicly released, right? Just info for Mayor’s Office?”
“Correct, not for public consumption,” writes the Mayor’s senior advisor Benjamin Eagles.
A month later, the health department was backed into a corner when Nate Rau, a reporter with the Tennessee Lookout, asked, “The figure you gave of ‘more than 80’ does lead to a natural question: If there have been over 20,000 positive cases of COVID-19 in Davidson and only 80 or so are traced to restaurants and bars, doesn’t that mean restaurants and bars aren’t a very big problem?”
Health department official Brian Todd then asked five other health department officials, “Please advise how you recommend I respond.”
The response he got was shocking and possibly criminal.
“My two cents. We have certainly refused to give counts per bar because those numbers are low per site.”
“We could still release the total though, and then a response to the over 80 could be because that number is increasing all the time and we don’t want to say a specific number.”
At least one city council member is furious at the cover-up.
Council member Steve Glover had a staff attorney inquire as to the authenticity of the emails. Here’s the official answer he received:
“I was able to get verification from the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Health that these emails are real.”
Glover says this is a clear case of a cover-up.
“They are fabricating information, they’ve blown their entire credibility… It’s gone, I don’t trust a thing they say going forward…nothing.”
“We raised taxes 34 percent and put hundreds literally thousands of people out of work that are now worried about losing their homes, their apartments…and we did it on bogus data. That should be illegal,” Glover stated.
When Fox 17 WZTV asked the Mayor’s office if these allegations were true, they weren’t told yes or no.
Instead, they were told to file a FOIA request.
We will keep you posted on this and all other Coronavirus related government abuses as they occur.
