The controversy over the 2020 presidential election results just won’t end.
Many conservatives continue to believe Donald Trump was robbed, while most leftists and “Never-Trumpers” believe Biden won fair and square.
Now it turns out that Donald Trump was right all along about this man and the election – and the Democrats are furious.
Former Trump Attorney General Bill Barr has started a new political firestorm regarding last November’s election results.
The former top cop, whom many Trump loyalists worried was in fact a Deep State plant, has been quite controversial at best.
And in interviews for a new book written by ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl, Barr says he thinks the fraud claims in last year’s election was “BS” and that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell pressed him to come out publicly and dispute Trump’s assertions.
While no one is surprised by McConnell’s actions, people on both sides are furious at Barr’s characterizations of what happened and trying to take the middle road yet again.
And in politics, that middle road is reserved for yellow lines and dead skunks.
So, Democrats are red with rage, saying that Barr is only claiming this in hopes of rehabilitating an image badly damaged by his Trump years.
Barr was at one time known to be a staunch supporter and advocate of President Trump, especially during the time when Robert Mueller released his now infamous Russia collusion report.
Some on the left say that Barr contributed to Trump’s cries that the voting system was defective and rigged.
But unfortunately for Mr. Middle-of-the-Road Barr, it isn’t just the Democrats beating up on him.
Donald Trump isn’t real happy with his recent comments either.
“Bill Barr’s weakness helped facilitate the cover-up of the Crime of the Century, the Rigged 2020 Presidential election,” Trump said in a statement.
The Hill reached Bill Barr by phone, but the former Attorney General declined to answer any questions about his time in the White House or his efforts to push back on Trump’s claims.
However, when asked why he felt compelled to speak out now about Trump’s election fraud claims, Barr merely said, “I didn’t feel compelled to. People were writing about them.”
Barr did refer back to the press conference he held right before leaving the Justice Department, where he infamously broke with Trump and his efforts to overturn the election.
These latest statements are in a complete reversal from what Barr was saying in the fall of 2020 – that mail-in ballots could be ripe for fraud. He also made similar statements in an interview with NPR and during congressional testimony.
Of course, Barr was right. In fact, most people can see the obvious concerns mail-in ballots cause.
But it is odd that Barr decided to speak out now.
Is it possible Barr is looking to gain back respect?
Or is it more possible that – like so many others who are part of the DC machine – that Barr has bigger aspirations and knows he has to wipe the slate clean?
Only Barr knows for sure, but one has to wonder if he’s miscalculated this time, just like so many other times in the past.
