The sham congressional January 6 committee is not the only attempt to cover up what really happened at the U.S. Capitol riot.
The Department of Justice has been working overtime to hide, destroy and cover up evidence of police actions on that day.
Now Joe Biden’s DOJ is trying to conceal this police misconduct that occurred on January 6.
After months of keeping defendants locked away in horrid, arguably cruel and unusual, conditions Joe Biden’s Justice Department is finally preparing for the first set of trials related to its political prosecution of January 6 participants.
The first such trial is that of Robert Gieswein, who turned himself in and was arrested on January 19 for his involvement in the Capitol protest and is scheduled to stand trial in February.
This is over one year after his arrest and detainment. So much for a speedy trial.
In fact, just one week after his arrest, Gieswein was indicted by a federal grand jury on six counts including “assaulting, resisting, or impeding” law enforcement with a dangerous weapon.
He has been behind bars ever since, denied bail while Judge Emmet Sullivan delayed his trial on numerous occasions.
Gieswein is one of 40 or so January 6 defendants held in a part of the D.C. jail system solely used to detain Capitol protesters.
Federal prosecutors accuse Gieswein of using a chemical spray against police officers and carrying a baseball bat.
Ahead of his trial, the Justice Department asked Judge Sullivan to strictly limit how Gieswein can defend himself. In fact, in a motion filed earlier this month the DOJ argued he should not be allowed to use self-defense against law enforcement as a reason for his actions on January 6.
“[The] Defendant will not be able to put forth any evidence that he had a reasonable belief that his actions were necessary to defend himself against the immediate use of unlawful force,” Matthew Graves, the new U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia wrote in a December 1 filing.
Preventing Gieswein from telling a jury exactly what happened on January 6 is the Justice Department’s newest attempt to cover up pervasive police misconduct.
However, Gieswein’s alleged offenses actually occurred exactly at the same time when Capitol and D.C. Metropolitan Police officers started attacking thousands of peaceful protesters assembled outside the building.
Law enforcement deployed “flashbang” grenades into the crowd around 1:15 p.m. that day, just moments after Trump finished his speech at the Ellipse. Police also used tear gas, rubber bullets, batons, and their own fists to assault protesters.
Prosecutors know this, that’s why the DOJ is desperate to keep secret any video footage or testimony that portrays these vicious assaults on peaceful protestors.
In fact, Biden’s DOJ and U.S. Capitol Police are trying to get roughly 14,000 hours of surveillance video captured by security cameras on January 6 to remain under protective orders.
Much of it supposedly shows a sustained attack on peaceful Americans by D.C.-based law enforcement agencies.
And as trials get underway and long-delayed discovery is finally being begrudgingly produced by the government, more evidence of egregious criminal police misconduct is emerging.
And it isn’t just testimony and video the Justice Department wants to hide from both defendants and the American people. Prosecutors want the names of police officers allegedly attacked by Capitol protesters to remain anonymous.
As the January 6 House Select Committee doctors text messages and fabricates evidence against Mark Meadows, Jim Jordan and others, Biden’s DOJ is actively concealing the truth, especially related to police brutality that day.
Will they get away with it? Or will someone in the GOP have the courage to stand for law and order and the truth?
