One big reason a vast majority of Americans voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 elections had to do with his vow to protect Israel from its many terrorist enemies.
Under Obama, Israel was treated poorly and largely ignored, and the Israelis languished as Obama deferred to treating terrorist enemies with kid gloves while turning his back on the Jewish nation.
Trump has done exceedingly well protecting Israel, but President Trump may have to put his foot down after what Israel “fired” at Iran recently.
One thing about being an ally with Israel is the implicit understanding that standing by her always is something that many other nations on the world stage do not look favorably upon.
Take for instance the issue of Jews inhabiting the West Bank.
Though Jews have inhabited the West Bank for years, the erroneous claims to the land by the nationless state of Palestine have made it so that every single time Israel defends herself against attacks, the rest of the world condemns their actions.
President Trump has made it exceedingly clear that Israel has the right to use military methods to keep the peace along the West Bank.
Likewise, he’s made it quite clear that Israel has the authority to conduct military exercises to keep itself safe from external threats that countries like Iran and Lebanon pose.
That being said, when Israel recently tested a rocket propulsion system purportedly aimed at Iran, the Iranian government and some on the international stage cried foul.
In a press release, Israel’s Defense Ministry announced the details on their decision to launch the test.
“The defense establishment conducted a launch test a few minutes ago of a rocket propulsion system from a base in the center of the country,” the ministry said. “The test was scheduled in advance and was carried out as planned.”
Since the announcement provided no further clarification about the type of test conducted, plenty of people invented theories that this specific test was of Israel’s Nuclear Test program.
This is why Iranian officials immediately erupted in protest over the decision.
In their minds’ eye, it’s not right that Israel has the freedom to test its nuclear capability if Iran can’t. Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted a statement posted to Twitter: “Israel today tested a nuke-missile, aimed at Iran.”
He blasted the United States and the rest of the West saying that they tend to punish Iran for nuclear tests but “look the other way” for Israel. [The West] “has fits of apoplexy over our conventional defensive [rockets].”
If Trump decides to react to this at all, the only reason he’ll be scrambling to defend Israel is that he knows how tenuous their position in the Middle East really is. The same way he’d scramble fighter jets to protect her, is how he’ll scramble to make sure that the rest of the world knows how important it is that Israel be allowed to mount offensive/defensive exercises for protection.
The nation of Israel is surrounded on all sides by countries that wish for the Jewish state to be wiped off the map.
To prove how critical it is Israel be allowed this freedom, consider this; after the announcement of the test, Iranian officials vowed they are still “determined to resolutely continue its activities related to ballistic missiles and space launch vehicles.”
So why wouldn’t the Jewish state test a system that could defend itself from such attacks?
And why wouldn’t Trump scramble to defend a nation that our policies have always decreed deserves it?
